A strange world

Chapter 82 Section 81. Another letter

Knock knock knock——

A knock on the door interrupted the charming atmosphere in the bedroom.

"Who's out there?"

Della fell back to the ground gently, and Annan, who was slightly cold, put on the mage's robe and opened the door.

Maid Abby stood outside the door holding a dinner plate: "The head maid asked me to bring you dinner."

Annan remembered that she had indeed not eaten yet, so she stepped aside and watched the maid Abby put down the dinner plate, turned around and left, and gently closed the door.

Della opened the plate and found a piece of baked bread and mushroom soup. She broke the bread and tasted the soup. There was nothing wrong with it.

"Thanks."

Annan did not invite Della to enjoy dinner together. He remembered that elves refused artificial food and only ate natural fruits or honey and maple sugar.

"So do you know about that Olmedo?" Annan asked Dela while eating.

"He is the heir to the Olmedo family."

Della didn't know much.

After dinner, Annan placed the spider bottle under the bed in a dark and dark place, climbed onto the bed wearing a mage's robe, and found that Della was still here.

"Aren't you going back?"

"Elves don't need much sleep. If you can't sleep..."

Just as Della spoke more words than before, she melted into the shadows in the corner.

Thinking that Della was in a certain shadow, Annan quietly pulled up the quilt, revealing only a pair of eyes that were the same as the night.

Annan woke up slowly on the soft big bed, his sleepy eyes gradually regained focus, and saw Della sitting in the corner, reading the book he brought from the attic.

"Good morning."

Annan sat up, feeling the coolness of the morning coming from the slipped quilt.

Della glanced at Annan and then returned to the book.

"Good morning."

The book in the elf's hand is called "City of Night", and Annan hasn't had time to read it yet.

Pushing open the patio door, the cool breeze blowing through the treetops made Annan's sleepiness dissipate.

It's August now, the hottest time in the entire summer, but the cold current coming from the snow-capped mountains in the north actually makes my nose turn reddish in the morning.

As Annan closed the patio door, the curtains lifted by the wind fell.

Last night's mushroom soup failed to fill Annan's stomach. Annan, who soon became hungry, and Della, who was holding a book, came to the restaurant.

The hands of the clock in the corner reminded Annan that there were still fifteen days left before the countdown to the apocalypse.

Annan's breakfast was a vegetable salad and a piece of chestnut broth, and Dela's was a piece of fruit. While Dela was trying the dishes, Annan asked Abby: "Do you know the city lord Olmedo?"

Abby, who was about to go out, stopped and answered Annan's words: "The city lord is deeply loved by the common people, and he will lead Breeze City to a more glorious future."

Annan Reeves, the young King in the North, the future Lord of Breeze City, who was attacked and usurped, blinked.

Of course the maid Abby knew who was in front of her, but she still insisted: "Master Annan, the city lord has given us hope to stay away from war and poverty."

"Why do you say that? Did he do something?" Annan asked curiously.

Annan initially thought it was just flattery, or a common refrain among politicians: the grand blueprint announced before taking office would never be realized. But Abby recounted the changes in Breeze City in the two months since Olmedo became the lord of the city: first, he continued to deliver supplies to support the fortress defense line on the top of the snowy mountains, then promoted scavengers to clean up rat infestations in the city, and issued decrees requiring the nobles to strictly enforce laws. Strictly abide by the law and donate to orphanages to support homeless children.

Abby and her brother survived because of this and were taken in by the Wine Lady.

As a vested beneficiary of the city lord's policies, Abby should defend Olmedo.

Annan guessed that Abby was worried that if she regained the city lord, she would lose everything she had gained, so that was why she had this attitude?

"Are you going out today?" Abby asked.

"Um."

"I'll prepare the carriage."

Abby left the restaurant, and Annan asked Della: "Is what she said true?"

"I don't know." The cloaked elf observed Annan: "If so, what would you do?"

"Then it's okay to give it to him."

As the King of the North who was attacked and usurped as the city lord, he should hate Olmedo, no matter how good he was - but not Annan, he knew that he was a fake. Augusta Olmedo knew it too.

Annan just wanted to avoid this disaster and take the opportunity to strengthen himself.

But Della didn't know. So in her eyes, Annan was shining with the light of humanity at this moment.

After breakfast, Annan got into the carriage with an apple given by Dela.

"Let's go to Francois's place first."

The carriage drove out of the manor, headed south along the spacious and bustling street, and turned onto a narrow road when it was about to leave the city. The surrounding environment gradually became desolate. Although it was not a dilapidated shack in a slum, the inconsistently colored brick walls and eaves patches meant that the carriage had entered a civilian area.

The baronial residence of Francois is located here, and it seems that we can get a glimpse of the dilemma faced by the baron.

The Baron warmly welcomed Annan's arrival and readily accepted to work for the King in the North. He also invited Annan to admire his collection room.

According to his flattering remarks, it would be an honor for him to be the King of the North's dog.

The last collection room Annan visited was Catalina's trophies, so he declined the invitation of Francois, who also had special hobbies, and explained his purpose:

"Do you know Olmedo?"

"The usurper? He is a shameful thief, a dirty pig, an insidious rat..."

"Throw away the personal conflicts and compliments to me."

Although Annan still wanted to hear Francois's interesting parallels.

Then all Francois had to say was that Jeffrey Olmedo was a charismatic young man.

"Of course, he is definitely not as good as you."

He did many things that benefited the City of Breeze.

"However, you will definitely do better than him after taking office!"

The Olmedo family and the old aristocracy were his backers.

"It's just that they can never compare to the Twelve Kings of the North!"

In this half-boast and half-truth, Francois's manservant said that a waiter who claimed to be from the Morrowind Tavern came to deliver a message to Annan.

It was indeed the clerk from the Morrowind Tavern. Della checked the letter and handed it to Annan.

Letter signed... Itilia Reeves.

Annan's "eldest sister".

The first half of the letter is the same as the previous letter, urging Levis to come back, but if Levis wants to stay, let him go to the Lawrencet family for help.

Annan frowned and took out another letter.

Their handwriting is similar, at least Annan can't tell the difference...

"What's wrong, Mr. Annan?"

"I received two letters, one may be fake and the other...may also be fake."

"Can you please tell me what is written on it? Maybe I can help you analyze what it is..."

Annan responded by handing the letter directly to Francois.

Francois's handsome cheeks flushed because of this trust. He took the letter with trembling hands, read it word for word and stood up excitedly:

"Your Excellency, King of the North, the answer lies in this letter!"
