Alexander The Great Mage

Chapter 56 - Evil Manling

"But this is definitely a good start." He grinned again. "Let's fly lower near it and 'talk' to it."

Liz'An nodded and told Wywy to follow her brother at a safe distance. Far enough to have time to respond to any spells that her brother might throw their way.

BOOOOM!! The Wyvern impacted the ground with tremendous power. Yet not a second later, whoosh! A swirling mass of wind blades shot out suddenly from the ground. Wywy had already anticipated her brother's attack and sent out a breath of fire to counter the wind blades.

"Be careful! Her brother's main affinity is not wind, it is -"

Before Liz'An could finish telling Dubaza what Wywy had just told her, a blue streak of lightning shot out from the ground, hitting Dubaza accurately on his chest. Or rather, tried to hit Dubaza on his chest.

Before the lightning could hit Dubaza, it somehow disappeared.

"Lightning." Liz'An finished awkwardly. She stared at Dubaza, who had a wide and silly grin on his face, like a child discovering that he somehow didn't realize he had the toy he always wanted in his toy stash.

"It's a lightning Wyvern?!" Dubaza exclaimed with a joyful laugh. "This little beast is mine." He said with a gleam in his eye. He stared hungrily at the 'little' 25-meter tall Wyvern roaring and thrashing about in the giant crater he made when he smashed into the ground just a few seconds earlier.

A vast and powerful aura began to radiate from him as a complex lightning web coalesced into being, covering him almost completely from head to toe. The lightning web crackled and zapped like some sort of controlled explosion, bathing him constantly in creepy, flashing blue light.

Like a lightning God, Dubaza began to float away from Liz'An and Wywy. Liz'An gave a startled gasp. Dubaza was actually capable of flight?

"Come have a taste of my Pure Lightning Body, little beast." Dubaza rasped in a rough, otherworldly voice. After making sure that Wywy and Liz'An were a safe distance away, the lightning web around Dubaza suddenly increased in strength and intensity. The blue lightning began to crackle even faster and in much greater volatility, turning from a deep blue to a pale, almost-white colour.

Dubaza pointed down at the Wyvern and a massive lightning whip hurtled down towards the Wyvern who roared in challenge and sent out massive streaks of his own lightning.

Liz'An stared at the unexpected lightning battle that was beginning to rage mere meters away from her. It was a sight that very, very few people would have the chance of witnessing.

Wyverns were already rare to begin with, meeting one with a lightning attribute could be considered as finding a pile of gold while casually digging for mushrooms to eat. And having it actually fight a person with a Pure Lightning Body which was only heard of in mythical stories… Liz'An knew that she would never have a chance of witnessing something like this ever again in her entire life.

As the two massive streaks of lightning collided, the expected loud explosion from the impact did not come. Dubaza's white lightning devoured the Wyvern's as the two lightnings simply merged together, increasing greatly in size.

As the much improved and empowered lightning hit the Wyvern, the explosion Liz'An had been waiting for finally sounded.

BOOM!!

GROAAARRRRRR!! The Wyvern roared in pain.

Dubaza grinned happily. His body was filled to the brim with lightning energy. He had never felt this great in his entire life, even when he was bathing in the lightning strikes of the largest of all thunderstorms.

The Wyvern's lightning energy is extremely potent. Dubaza thought with a sense of deep satisfaction. Even though it merely launched a few casual lightning bolts at him, those casual bolts had contained a huge amount of pure lightning energy. And lightning energy was exactly what Dubaza needed.

His magical capacity had never been his strong point, and it was the limiting factor that caused his power to merely be at the very peak of the Red Robes. His skill and mastery over lightning magic had long reached the apex of spell casting. And much more importantly, he was born with a Pure Lightning Body which made him not only impervious to lightning damage, but also able to absorb lightning directly. The Pure Lightning Body also gave him a maximum affinity with lightning.

However, the downside was that Dubaza was unable to store anything but lightning energy in his body. This gave him a myriad of weaknesses and very limited functionality. That was also the reason why he had to press on something on his arm which released a sphere or water energy before Dubaza was able to cast those Water Spears.

Years of missions and adventuring had allowed Dubaza to come up with various little tricks to increase his efficiency and effectiveness in taking down his enemies. That custom made magical trinket which was able to store water energy was just one of many tricks he had.

Dubaza made for a very specialized and very deadly force.

In short, he was exactly what people call him - The God of Destruction. Nothing more, nothing less.

The God of Destruction stood calmly in the air, a slight distance away from the angry Wyvern. Judging from the way he was glaring at Dubaza, he had apparently regained his sight. And if so, he had also definitely regained his ability to fly. However, the fact that he wasn't in a hurry to go back to the sky spoke volumes of his intellect and his scheming mind.

A good trait to have in a contract beast. Dubaza nodded appreciatively at the great boon that had somehow fallen onto his lap in his twilight years. First, King Aloxandros somehow got his hands on the technique to create beast contracts. And to top it off, the perfect beast for him to sign a contract with happened to be the very first beast he had to hunt down and sign a contract with in order to fulfill his King's plan.

Perfect. Absolute perfection. Lady Luck was definitely paying attention to him and his country, he thought.

He would never have guessed that he wasn't actually wrong in this. But he would definitely be surprised at the race of the 'Lady'.

The Wyvern glared at Dubaza with great anger, but also with great caution. This manling had managed to send him falling from the skies, a feat none had ever done before in his entire life. Not only that, this cursed manling had also somehow managed to have greater mastery than him over the lightning element?? A huge sense of crisis had enveloped him, driving the cloud of anger that usually blinded him to reason.

He turned his glare to the giant black Wyvern behind the manling. It was his sister. Was this part of her plan to kill him and take over his lands? At this thought, a fresh wave of anger flooded his heart. However, before the wave of anger could take root and have an effect on him, a raspy voice rang out from the manling.

"Your sister has made a choice to live a life of glory." Dubaza said.

Glory?

Dubaza could see the surprise and confusion pierce through the anger that was beginning to cloud the Wyvern's eyes.

"She had chosen to be partners with us as we begin our conquest of the entire world. We would trample over our enemies, bring death upon them from the skies and stand victorious on a mountain made out of their corpses. You can make the same choice as her and join us." Dubaza flung the Subordinate Beast Contract over to him.

"Or you can choose to fight." Dubaza unleashed a little bit more of his lightning aura, causing the very air around him to hum with electrical dissonance.

An angry below and the following burst of dragon breath told Dubaza exactly what the Wyvern thought of his words.

"A fight it is." Dubaza smiled as he dodged the dragon breath with great agility even while floating in the air. "I was hoping you'd make that choice."

Dubaza pointed down at the Wyvern who had leaped up towards him and was furiously flapping his wings. Unfortunately for the Wyvern, lightning travels much faster than beasts do, no matter how strong the beast is.

BAMM!!

A large lightning bolt fell upon him from the sky and smashed him back down to the ground. He grunted in pain, and was about to roar at Dubaza when...

BAMMM!!

An even larger bolt struck him mercilessly while he was down.

GROOAA- BAMMMM!!!

Another one silenced him mid roar.

BAMMM!!!

The Wyvern was too indignant to even roar out that time. Couldn't he even let out a roar to express his feelings?

BAMMMMM!!!

Apparently not! The lightning bolts fell upon him with measured power and regularity. They were not so strong as to grievously injure the Wyvern, but was packed with enough punch to ensure he remained grounded and unable to do anything.

BAMMMMM!!

Damn the manling!

BAMMMMMMM!!!

EVIL MANLING!!!! The Wyvern cried out mournfully in his heart.
