785 Preparing for the design competition

Chen Mo held the design competition twice a year, in March after the new year and in July during the graduation season.

The design competition for the graduation season in July was open to all university students. All university graduates and above were allowed to sign up.

The design competition held in March after the new year was mainly targeted at designers in the industry. Independent designers or designers from other companies could sign up.

The list of participants would go through a preliminary review. After screening out the participants who did not meet the requirements, the other participants would go through the preliminaries, the semi-finals, and the final to finally choose the best designer.

The preliminaries were held in more than 20 major cities across the country, while the semi-finals and finals were held in the capital. Chen Mo was considering renting a venue in the imperial capital for this year's competition. He could hold the competition there after the new headquarters was completed next year.

These two dates were also considered. The graduates would just graduate in July and were still struggling to find a job. In March, there would be a routine wave of resignations in the IT industry, and many capable designers would choose to find another career path during this time.

Moreover, the timing of the two competitions was staggered to ensure the fairness of the competition. The graduates would not mix with the experienced designers in the industry.

The difference from previous competitions was that the designers would only know the competition's specific topic when they arrived at the venue. They would then write their design drafts and produce the game on the spot. If it was a large-scale game, then they could just write a more detailed design concept draft. If the judges were interested in the concept draft, they could continue to work on it.

When it came to the semi-finals and finals, the designers would design the game in a location provided by the officials. It could last for a week or even a month, which was enough time for them to develop medium or large scale games.

The judges for these design competitions were experienced independent designers from Thunderbolt gaming platform, such as Li Feng, Zhou Haibin, Qiu Hengyang, and so on.

These designers had been working with Chen Mo on Thunderbolt gaming platform for a long time, and had their own work to represent them. They were all very happy to participate in this competition. On one hand, he wanted to contribute to the development of the entire video game industry with Chen Mo. On the other hand, he wanted to show his face to the public. After all, the video game design competition might be live-streamed, and many players, video game lovers, and industry professionals in the country would be watching.

……

The competition rules still needed to be worked out in detail, but Chen Mo's thoughts were clear. He wanted Thunderbolt Entertainment's game design competition to be the largest, fairest, most professional, and most promising game design competition in the country.

He hoped that this design competition would be able to attract all the outstanding graduates and independent designers who wanted to enter the game industry. This would ignite the passion of the people for the game industry, and at the same time, it could be used as a large-scale recruitment event for Thunderbolt entertainment.

As for the rewards of the competition, it was naturally the most generous.

Other than the usual prize money and prizes, Chen Mo would look through all the designs that entered the finals and decide who he wanted to send an invitation to.

Of course, there would be many experienced designers as judges in the competition. They had their own judgment on the work, and the competition would also have corresponding rules. On the other hand, Chen Mo's preferences were independent of the judges. Even if the judges didn't like a designer, it was fine as long as Chen Mo thought it was okay.

The designers that Chen Mo had his eye on could choose to join Thunderbolt entertainment as an employee or become an independent video game designer working with Thunderbolt gaming platform.

These two choices had their pros and cons. As an independent video game designer, their income would be unstable, but they could still design their own games. Thunderbolt gaming platform would have a recommendation system for these people, allowing more players to understand these video game designers and their works.

Whether it was Thunderbolt Entertainment's employees or the independent video game designers that Chen Mo had acknowledged, they would all be able to secure a place in Thunderbolt Entertainment's new headquarters.

This was also to pave the way for Chen Mo's future plans.

Up until now, Chen Mo's team was still relatively small. When he was making games, he would choose the best option based on the team's situation.

However, the game would inevitably develop on a larger scale in the future.

With the current size of the office in the new headquarters, the existing employees of Thunderbolt entertainment might not even fill up one-tenth of the entire floor, and the rest was space for expansion.

In the future, Chen Mo might develop a huge world, or even a multiverse of many worlds.

For example, in some web novels, players could freely travel through many worlds. Each world had different missions and mysteries, and all the worlds were controlled by a unified will ...

Obviously, no matter how complicated or huge the game was, it was designed by the designer bit by bit. It was created by the entire R & D team bit by bit. There was no possibility of any shortcuts.

Chen Mo couldn't possibly create all the worlds by himself if he wanted to make a game like this. He would need a massive research team to take care of all the parts.

Therefore, Chen Mo had recruited these outstanding designers to prepare for the future. If Chen Mo wanted to design an 'infinite-style' game world by himself, then these outstanding designers could each take charge of a world, and Chen Mo only needed to check them one by one.

Even if they didn't make these large-scale games in the short term, these designers could still make their own works. It wouldn't delay them anyway.

……

This was also why Chen Mo was the only one in China who had the right to organize such a large scale competition.

It was because of his appeal.

Currently, no designer in the country could reach Chen Mo's appeal.

Chen Mo had been successful in every field of video games. He had made competitive games that were popular all over the world, as well as high-quality VR games that had won the best of the year. To other video game designers, Chen Mo was the best in the country. Thunderbolt entertainment had enough funds, a strong network, and a large number of players, so their appeal was obvious.

After roughly deciding on the rules of the game design competition, it was about time to start warming up.

The competition would not be held in March after the new year because the rules of the competition for designers in the industry were more complicated and there was not enough time to prepare.

Thunderbolt Entertainment's first video game design competition was set for next July, but before that, they could let the news out so that the graduating students could prepare in advance. They could treat this video game design competition as one of their life choices after graduation.
