Bizarre Detective Agency

Chapter 11: 11. Waiting for night to fall

Chapter 11 Eleven. Waiting for night to fall

"Thank you so much, Mr. Exorcist, if something happens to my poor Henry..." Tolkien has been thanking him all the time. If it wasn't for Lu Li's calm expression, he would have wanted to hug Lu Li to express his inner emotions.

   "500 shillings."

Until Luli interrupted Tolkien at the exit.

A few minutes later, Lu Li walked out of the house with the 500 shillings that Tolkien paid.

A thin and dark dress stood in front of the door, winking at passers-by. Hearing the door open, Oliver turned his head in surprise.

"You've been standing here all the time?"

   "Have you seen the ghost!"

The voices of the two sounded at the same time.

"That's right." Lu Li replied, of course he couldn't tell the truth to Oliver, who made money by selling news.

"I don't know the commission fee..." Oliver gestured clearly, two hairy legs entangled together, rubbing against each other.

A 50 shilling was handed to him, and a steady voice sounded: "500 shillings, this is your part."

"That's great!" Oliver cheered and jumped up on the spot. Several passersby subconsciously turned to the bottom of the skirt, while the back was pale and swiftly walked away.

Holding 50 shillings, he kissed heavily, Oliver stared at Lu Li with an almost fanatical gaze.

Lu Li stood there, motionless, with a slightly cold voice: "If you dare to pounce, I will let you go back naked."

"I just want you to see the customs of Rodster Harbor. If you don't like it, forget it." Oliver was a little disappointed, shoved the money into his chest, and patted it again with the palm of his hand.

"Very good, I can have bean stew tonight."

"Aren't you going to make up the arrears?" Lu Li put on his hat and walked down the steps to the other side of the street.

"Uh…"

Oliver, who was following behind, was stunned for a moment, and suddenly recalled the explanation of the Slavic lady before going out.

"Old... Boss! Are you free now?"

"What's the matter." Lu Li walked ahead without looking back.

"That's right... I still have a lot of commissions there. Would you like to go get them with me?" Oliver gritted his teeth and chose the former between Mrs. Slav and Boss Lu Li.

   "Just bring it here."

"But..." Oliver couldn't think of any other ideas to lead Lu Li over, so he decided to try to tell the truth: "But Mrs. Slav wants to see you!"

   "Slavic lady?"

"It's the owner of our apartment, a..."

"I know who she is, I mean, why did she want to see me."

Oliver's thoughts turned sharply, and Hu made up a statement: "She wants to help me see what my new boss is like, um! She is for my own good."

Lu Li, who was walking in front, stopped, turned around, and looked at Oliver with those unique black eyes.

There was no emotion in those eyes, but Oliver still felt the unbearable pressure, which made him almost unable to bear the truth.

But before Oliver could answer, Lu Li had withdrawn his gaze and continued to walk forward.

"Not today."

It is past noon, and the clock in front of the wall shows the time at 1:30. For most local residents, afternoon means "don't go too far from home", lest it is too late to return home when it is dark.

Lu Li did as the locals do, and the same is true here.

The apartment of the Slavs is in the Black Gold neighborhood, and it takes a long time to walk back and forth. Especially Lu Li had more important things to do.

"Not today..." Oliver muttered in a low voice, his eyes lit up: "Do you mean it's okay tomorrow?"

   "Probably, if I'm fine tomorrow..."

The last sentence was a murmur in a voice that was close to self-talk, but Oliver could not hear it clearly.

At the end of the street, the two people who went to different places separated.

  …

Sailor Street, some shops selling food have opened their doors, and the aroma is wafting out, blown away by the sea breeze.

People here mostly eat only two meals a day: morning and afternoon.

   They rarely eat at night.

A meal in the morning allows the residents to have sufficient physical work, and a meal in the afternoon is to prevent hunger before going to bed. dinner? It is meaningless and unnecessary, only the rich or noble will eat three meals a day.

Mrs. Filmin Bakery, freshly baked bread is put into the window by workers. Most are bran-free, hard-tasting breads, as well as soft breads made from a small portion of refined flour.

Some children in ragged clothes and sallow complexions due to malnutrition gathered around the window, greedily inhaling the aroma wafting from the bakery and swallowing saliva.

There is still some time before lunch, and the staff of the bakery are baking bread for sale.

A figure in a black coat with a top hat walked into the bakery, and his slender body blocked part of the light outside.

The busy employee by the window raised his head, saw the figure take off his hat, his eyes lit up, and came over and said enthusiastically, "Mr. Lu Li, what do you want today?"

"Two pounds of soft bread." Lu Li said, thinking of something, and added: "Is there a bean stew here?"

"We only make bread here, but Mrs. Filming can make bean stew. I can ask Mrs. Filming to help you if you need it."

   "So troublesome."

"You're welcome, then please wait a moment." The employee walked to the back kitchen and said something, returned to the window, and took out the steaming soft bread that had just been baked in the window and put it in a paper bag.

"Mrs. Filming will make it soon, and we will send it to your detective agency. Bread is 8 shillings, pea stew is 23 shillings, you can give 30 shillings."

Lu Li handed out the money, took the paper bag, turned around and walked out of the bakery.

The children looked at Lu Li eagerly, tugging their dirty pants with their fingers, as if they were expecting something.

Lu Li stood in front of the bakery door, waved at the group of children, and opened the steaming paper bag.

"Wow!"

The children cheered and surrounded Lu Li, but they didn't dare to get too close to dirtying Lu Li's expensive clothes. They carefully took a large piece of bread that Lu Li broke off, and thanked him crisply.

  "Thank you Mr. Lu Li"

   "You are a great man!"

Some passing adults looked at him with a smile, and some neighbors who had met Lu Li a few times were kindly teasing Lu Li, and he was showing kindness again.

The residents of Sailor Street are warm and welcoming.

They did this not only because of Lu Li's special eyes and hair color, but also because of his identity.

Lu Li is the only exorcist in the Sailor Block, and just like a doctor or a scholar, everyone may need their help.

For children, the reason for their enthusiasm is very simple: Lu Li is good to them.

distributed half of the bread to the children, and Lu Li returned to the detective agency with greetings.

Not long after, the staff of the bakery brought the bean stew, and Lu Li actually tasted the spice from it.

Apparently, Mrs. Filming lost a lot of thought in making this pot of stew.

Lu Li finished eating the bean stew and bread, washed the lunch box and sent it back to the bakery, and then returned to the desk of the detective agency.

Sitting in the chair, Lu Li was as motionless as a statue, quietly waiting for the night to come.
