Chapter 726: 17. Tango Town

   Chapter 726 Seventeen. Mange Town

"Remember what I said, don't trust the sky."

Katarina's whisper sounded from beside her.

"you can see?"

Lu Li stared at the dark red fire ring formed by the magma, as well as the dome rock wall.

"It looks like it's underground." Katerina answered Lu Li's question. "Maybe this is your subconscious sky?"

"Is there a relationship between vision and imagination?"

"Well, it's almost like a dream." Katarina admired the sky.

"Does everyone see the same sky?"

"Yes, everyone can see it, so maybe the current scene is your subconscious." Katerina said that the sky changes every once in a while, never revealing its true colors. Empty subconscious imagination, or fear.

In such an underground cave, the projection of the mixture of fluorite and magma does seem to originate from Lu Li's subconscious.

"Is it weird?" Lu Li asked.

"Who knows... Except for the slow drop in Sanity, it won't hurt us." Katarina motioned for Lu Li, who was staring at the sky, to continue on his way.

Lu Li retracted his gaze and walked towards the distant town in the wilderness illuminated by the magma fire ring.

Each town has a rule based on its church, and the rules vary widely from town to town, such as extreme rules: no vegetarian food; no time to know. For example, the strange rules: enter the town with the left leg and leave the town with the right leg; no hats are allowed. There are also rules to ignore: worship once a week; gods must be called by specific words.

The consequences of violating the rules are also different. Moderate churches will only punish, neutral churches will be expelled from the town and permanently banned from entering, and radical churches will be dragged to sacrifice.

"The rule of Tango Town is not to self-harm, and not to do anything to hurt yourself."

"What if you have to self-harm in order to save yourself?" Lu Li asked calmly.

"what?"

   "Like doing surgery on yourself."

"I don't know..." Katerina recalled that there was not much happening in the town, but she didn't think of anything. "Are all exorcists as cunning as you?"

"It is necessary to understand one thing." Lu Li replied.

This is not an exorcist's code, but an investigator's code.

Katarina doesn't think so, because knowledge has long been a curse. But because of her respect for the legendary exorcist, she did not refute this.

Tangge Town was in front of him. Before entering the town, Katarina reminded Lu Li: "Don't trust anyone casually, and don't tell the truth. Lies are necessary. If you don't want the body to be thrown into the sewer the next day, hide yourself."

There are only loose legal restrictions in towns, and hunters who walk on the edge of darkness and death don't care whether they kill monsters or humans, especially when the latter benefits more and is simpler.

The same kind of carnage happens every day.

But Katarina has selfish intentions - she is trying to scare Lu Li.

Anyone who knew Lu Li's identity would not be able to kill him. The value of Lu Li lies in being alive, and there is no difference between a dead pure-blooded human and a lowly alien.

Katarina just told Lu Li the dark laws of this era and didn't want Lu Li's identity to be exposed.

The guards are stationed at the entrance of the town. Their symbolic meaning is greater than the actual meaning, and they are more to establish the majesty of the town.

Katarina asked Lu Li to wait here, approached the guard and said, "I'm the hunter, Katerina the bee stinger, I have a new discovery to see the mayor."

The two guards looked at each other with undisguised contempt and mockery: "You don't know the rules, rookie hunter, go to the church."

Katerina seemed to be used to their attitude, cursing in a low voice, "You fools, you will regret rejecting me", returned to Lu Li, and led him into the town.

The ground of the street is a compacted dirt road. There are many people walking on the street, but the pervading atmosphere is more icy and quiet. The few chatter that broke the silence also came from the sackcloth-clad inhabitants—who were very different from the solitary and indifferent hunters who wore leather armour for combat.

But without exception, both hunters and residents, many of them carry organs born from pollution - a larger proportion of hunters.

   "Same?" Katarina whispered.

Lu Li knew what she was asking, and shook his head gently: "The difference is huge."

The worst towns were not so indifferent back then.

"But at least it provides safety," Katerina said. "I've been to Midnight City, and it must be exactly the same there."

  Lu Li didn't say anything.

Katerina led Lu Li to the west of the town, a fence surrounded by a religious building with only barren soil in the garden.

The vaulted doors of the church were closed as if closed.

Katarina walked along the path to the gate and knocked lightly on a small door on the gate.

After more than ten seconds, the observation window on the small door opened, and there was a dull breathing sound in the dark space behind the door, indicating that someone was behind the door.

Lu Li faintly sensed some kind of obscure aura in the space behind the door.

Katarina's face showed the restraint she didn't even face the guards: "Lord Believer, I am the Hunter Bee Sting Katarina, and I have found a pure-blooded human."

   "Pure human?" the cultist whispered.

Katerina stood to the side so that the believers behind the door could see Lu Li: "He is from before the weird times, I found him in the shelter."

A word that sounds like Lu Li is a refugee resident.

After a brief silence, the believer closed the observation window again: "Tangge Town doesn't need it, a purebred human can't do anything."

"please wait a while……"

Katerina hurriedly stopped the believers and asked inexplicably, "Didn't those refugees be sent a few years ago, for...why not this time!"

"They were picked up by Midnight City," the believer replied.

   "Midnight City? Can..."

Katerina wanted to say something, but was rejected by the opened observation window.

Lu Li watched silently, the indifferent believers felt fresh.

The disappointed Katerina returned to her side, and Lu Li asked him, "Are you going to find the mayor?"

"Mayor? No..." Katerina shook her head and said, "Go to the tavern first, we can inquire about some news there."

Although the believers rejected her, she was not worried.

Gold never has to worry about not being able to sell.

   Wanderer Tavern.

The name of the tavern is written on the wooden sign.

When    approached, the aroma of the liquor mixed with the smell of excrement in the dark alley, blowing towards the face

Katerina and Lu Li pushed the door and entered the tavern. The crowded tavern was crowded with noise and roughness that was the opposite of the street.

"The Wanderer Tavern, our hunter's tavern." Katarina introduced Lu Li and walked to the empty table in the corner.

Lu Li observed most of the guests wearing leather armor and sat down with Katerina.

As soon as he sat down, the smell of wine and cooking food made Lu Li's stomach growl that Katerina could clearly hear.

He hadn't eaten for almost twenty-four years.
