Chapter 881: One hundred and seventy-two. Small town suspicion

   Chapter 881

The rolling black clouds are like waves on an upside-down sea. Thunder surging through the clouds, as if a storm was approaching.

Although the weather is as bad as the rainy season, the harsh winter is also blocked.

Andrea stopped at the edge of the gray town where she could see through the fog.

Further forward they may be exposed to the presence of the entrenched here.

The lair has always been the safest place—and the most dangerous place to those that oppose it.

Before    discussed how to break into Innsmouth and bring back Catalina, the people on Andrea observed the town that dispelled the fog.

The buildings along the hill are densely packed together, and the large collapsed and collapsed houses make the town look lifeless and ominous. Two half minarets stand on the mountainside, one of which collapsed from the waist. The remnant spire and the other two spires stretched out towards the starry sky, as if they wanted to touch the secrets beyond the starry sky.

What caught everyone’s attention on Andrea were the weeds and trees along the shore and the gaps between the houses, the silhouettes of people walking on the narrow winding streets, and the factories smoking lightly from the chimneys by the inlets that flowed into the ocean.

The source of the algae plants left around Katerina's ward became clear——

It makes sense that    plants are still growing in the waters of this land, where night and eerie fog cannot penetrate.

Anyway, heading straight for the small town of Innsmouth is a bad idea.

Ophelia watched for a while, and then turned her attention back to Lu Li, who was watching with the monocular in her hand.

   "Found... what?"

"Humanity."

The removed monocular revealed the same dark eyes as the deep sea.

The people walking in the streets and alleys of the town are all humanoid silhouettes, wearing civilian clothes that can roughly distinguish their occupations.

They, like Katerina, are believers with distorted consciousness?

But maybe not. No one knows if there is a group of weird and human reminders that also have the same habit of dressing.

   They had to get closer.

Andrea approached the coastline along the edge of the mist, and the area where the strange mist was dispersed was large enough to allow them to approach the shore without disturbing the distant town, and half-stranded on the seabed more than 100 meters away from the beach.

Five wooden boats carrying everyone descended from the side of the boat one after another, and fell into the pitch-black sea with surging waves.

Bishop Jon grabbed the oars and waited until the other four wooden boats had spread out to guard them before starting to row the oars.

Lu Li carried the oil lamp and tilted his head to look at the sea. The ink-like water reflected the shimmering light, and nothing could be seen.

However, Bishop Jon and Tentacled Cultists will immediately notice if the heretics are approaching.

When there were more than fifty meters from the coastline, there was a terrible sound of thick knuckles hitting the hull of several wooden boats. But it was a false alarm, it was some garbage floating on the offshore sea. Such as debris suspected of shin bones and dead fish carcasses.

Lu Li grasped the monocular and looked at the center like the eye of the storm, and even worried that he would be noticed if he stared for too long. He only stayed in the town for a while before turning to the sea.

A horizon-like, undulating black line slightly above the waterline appeared on the sea in the distance.

It is called Devil's Reef. It used to be a reef with all kinds of weird legends, but now maybe the legends about it are not chasing shadows.

The wooden boat suddenly shook violently and hit the shoal.

Shadow Church believers in black robes disembarked first, and they were like a group of black ghosts under the sea breeze.

For some reason, everyone who set foot on the taupe beach was engulfed in weird anxiety and unease, as if something ominous was about to happen.

The believers of the Church of Shadow quickly spread the magic circle on the beach, and the believers of the tentacles and their men wandered anxiously. As hostile pagans, they feel it more deeply.

Lu Li set foot on the beach where they were not welcome. The rough gravel was mixed with broken shells and bone spurs of fish. Walking on the beach with bare feet would definitely be bloody.

"Next... what to do." Ophelia asked.

Lu Li was still thinking. The sight of people in the town through the binoculars gave him a new idea: to sneak into the town.

No objection, but disagreements over the details of the exchange.

Cultists are hostile to each other, even if not counting the ancient gods of the Tentacles and the Lord of the Deep beyond hatred.

Because of faith, but also because of distrust.

Even if the town of Innsmouth is really human, it is a believer in the Lord of the Deep Sea.

Bringing either the Church of the Shadows or the unknown ancient Church of Sacrifice near it would amount to a fight—even though they came for it in the first place.

Only Lu Li and Ophelia who are unbelievers are suitable for approaching the town.

   Not even Purseus.

The point of disagreement is whether Lu Li wants to enter the town.

Everyone agreed that Ophelia was enough. As the Wraith has a higher immunity to pollution, the power also restrains these heretics who are obviously more deeply connected with water.

But Lu Li was going to enter the small town of Innsmouth by himself, and even Ophelia agreed.

   "Wisdom... also matters."

Even if the human beings in the town can communicate, Ophelia is troublesome if she wants to communicate.

With    Lu Li's insistence, no one objected.

Tentacles believers don't care about Lu Li's life very much, but Shadow Church believers who care about Lu Li's life don't dare to question and block.

They will stay on this beach and arrange a magic circle to receive Lu Li and Ophelia.

Lu Li hung the holster behind his waist, and the black coat that fell down covered the outline of the psychic gun.

"Mr. Lu Li, you can definitely bring Miss Katerina back!" Purse's face flashed with firm trust.

Ophelia waved to him and followed Lu Li to the distant town.

When the disaster is blocked, the edge of the haze maintains a quite primitive ecology. The dark green dense bushes and trees are stacked layer upon layer, and are entangled by thick python-like vines, forming a forbidden area like an abyss that people dare not step into.

The woods are eerily quiet. There are no insects, no birds and beasts, it is like a green and silent hell, which makes Ophelia, who has seen real plants after more than 20 years, unable to yearn for it——

Lu Li was different. The cursed title of [Tree Whisperer] made him only feel the vitality of the jungle and the vague closeness.

Unfortunately, they are not weird and cannot tell Lu Li any information about Innsmouth town.

As we approached the town whose outline gradually became clear in the distance, traces of human existence began to appear around.

   Dead stakes and messy footprints.

But there is a lot of disturbing stuff in it.

For example, a huge skeleton like a whale stranded on the shore, and a messy fin-like footprint on the beach.

Even so, Lu Li and Ophelia didn't meet anyone or pagans on the way, as if they were all hiding in small towns or bays.

The tranquility of only the sound of the waves exacerbated the disgust in my heart. I don't know if this unease is just a psychological effect, or if the town is getting closer and closer.

Anyway, they have come to this town called Innsmouth.
