Chapter 3 Liliana

Liliana von Bergman lay on the dusty ground, staring blankly at the bats flying in the air.

As a student of the Archaeology Department of Offa University in Heishui Province, if she came here in a more respectable way today, she would definitely dance in this hall with excitement.

A well-preserved ruins of the Kos Dynasty era, it is hard to imagine how many lost documents can be excavated from it. If she can show the findings here to the academic community, she may even be sent all the way to the position of associate professor in the department of archaeology at the college.

But in this ruin, which was brought in by the Demon as a reserve like now, the mentality is completely different.

The two demons with long limbs, huge heads and scrawny torsos were munching on the meat with a sticky voice; she tried not to think about the meat; she was talking about what to do with her next.

"So when is the last time this woman can start eating?"

"Why do you only want to eat in your mind? This is the only one left, and it's gone after eating. We will stay here for a while."

"Then, as long as it's not lethal, it's okay to have a few bites first."

"Are you an idiot? The first bite is always dedicated to the hungry lady Camilla. If you bite it, can it still be used as a sacrifice?"

"It's impossible to take a living person with you all the time, right? What if we encounter any danger here and we don't notice her in time and let her run away? Wouldn't it leak the arrangement here? "

"Well... that's the same thing. It's good to make reserve food as before. It is indeed a hidden danger to bring a living person by your side. You can draw the rune of the ceremony first."

The conversation between   Amo's left Liliana's heart full of despair.

At this moment, she is paralyzed, and even if she wants to ask for mercy, she will be unable to speak because her tongue is knotted. In this situation, she could do nothing but pray silently to the Seven Holy Spirits for a miracle to come.

One of the sub-magic appeared in Liliana's line of sight, its skin seemed to be covered with mold, and there were traces of corruption and festering everywhere. It opened its mouth, which took up half the size of its entire face, and stuck out a long forked tongue, licking her cheek.

"Don't be afraid, don't be afraid... Your soul will soon be able to reunite with your friends in the Moon Realm. There you can ask them if they are in pain before they die, and how does it compare to before you died?"

Amo pointed at the leftover bones with a serrated dagger for ritual use, and said in a playful voice.

It was her companion who was exploring the ruins with her, and they were attacked and killed by the two demons shortly after stepping into the ruins.

   Dad, Mom... help me...

Watching the dagger approaching her, Liliana closed her eyes in despair

   "Tack, tick, tick..."

It was at this time that a slight but very clear sound of footsteps came from the corridor outside the front door.

The hall suddenly fell into a dead silence.

Liliana opened her eyes suspiciously. At this moment, the dagger was half-kneeling beside her, exchanging glances with the charcoal drawing on the ground.

It put its slender fingers next to its mouthparts, which could hardly be called mouths, and made a "silent" motion. Then it gently inserted the dagger back into its belt, and slowly pulled out a A short sword smeared with green venom.

And the other sub-magic put the charcoal pen lightly on the ground, and then whispered something, a flame quickly gathered in its palm, and soon changed into a swirling fireball.

The sound of footsteps is getting closer and closer, and the two demons are staring at the corner outside the door, not daring to let out the air.

Liliana desperately tried to make some noises to remind the people who came outside, but unfortunately the effect of the paralysis technique was still remarkable, she couldn't even move a finger.

With the sound of footsteps, he came to the corner in front of the door, the magic caster raised his hand, and the fireball swirling in his hand was quickly launched.

   "Boom!"

Intense flames flashed, and the huge explosion made the entire hall seem to be shaking for a while.

Liliana's hope of getting out of trouble just ignited was extinguished.

The two demons looked at the surging flames outside the door, and their guarded posture relaxed a little.

The things that were in line with Liliana's sixteen years of common sense in life ended here, and then something changed. From Liliana's point of view, it can only be described as incredible.

Without warning, a silver-white magic circle appeared under the feet of the two demons. A strong whirlwind instantly swept up the dust in the entire room and blew the two demons into the air.

It was also at the moment when they floated in the air that two sharp ice thorns extended diagonally from the ground where there was nothing, accurately piercing the two sub-moons in the air.

All of this happened so suddenly that Liliana didn't realize what had happened until the corpses of the two demons began to dissipate into black salt crystals.

A sound of heavy footsteps came from the opposite direction of the previous explosion, and she rolled her eyes to look over.

   Then she saw the man.

A man who seems to have come out of a legend, his body exudes the breath of ice and blood.

His face is slightly vicissitudes, his expression is a little gloomy, and his long gray-white hair is messy. Filled with magic power, his eyes shone with silver light. His cheeks were slightly sunken, his beard sighed, and his skin was as pale as a layer of hoarfrost.

He was wearing a dark bone armor, the shape of the armor was twisted and tangled like a flame, and sharp bone spurs extended from his wrists and elbows, as if growing on that person's body. The entire suit of armor "breathes" the cold air as if it were alive. Numerous runes and totems were engraved on the armor, and the light of ice blue and blood red alternately flowed. These lights finally converged on a fist-sized black crystal in the center of the bone armor.

He held a staff made of pure frost in his hand, with a blood-red orb embedded in its tip. Three breaths of flame, thunder, and frost are lingering around the blood-colored orb—those are three powerful spells that have been chanted but not activated. The magic contained in it, she felt as if her soul was frozen just by looking at it.

The man first looked around, then slowly walked to a place about three steps away from Liliana.

   "Here...the only two of them?"

The man stared into her eyes and asked.

His voice was low and hoarse, with an indescribable majesty.

Maybe because she was too shocked, Liliana didn't understand the meaning of the other party's words for a while, she just asked dumbly.

   "What two?"

After    opened her mouth, Liliana realized that she was able to speak normally, and that the paralysis technique she used before had been released.

"Are there only two of them here?"

   The man asked again.

   "Only...just the two of them!"

   Liliana replied quickly.

The man looked around the hall again, and then said to her.

"I've unlocked the paralysis on you, try to see if you can stand up by yourself."

Liliana moved her limbs, which were almost unconscious, and tried to stand up, but she couldn't make up her mind at all.

Before she could speak, a green light flashed, and Liliana felt that her limbs slowly began to regain strength.

   “Thank you… thank you…”

The man just waved his hand, then approached and asked.

"There are some things I need to confirm first, what time is it?"

"Twilight... Twilight Moon is twenty-four, or twenty-five? I've been controlled by the paralysis technique for the past few days, and I don't know exactly how many days have passed."

"No, I'm asking what year it is."

This question made Liliana shudder, thinking that this person is a heretic mage who has been living in seclusion for so long that he has forgotten the time?

Yes, there is only this possibility, otherwise, how could such a powerful mage be willing to succumb to such remote ruins.

The more Liliana thought about it, the more certain she felt, and then she couldn't help but feel a little scared.

She heard that heretic mages were unable to use the magic of the astral world because they had betrayed the laws of the stars, so they would extract and torture the souls of others, using the pain and despair of their souls as fuel for their spells.

Looking at the other party's eyes that glowed silver because of too much magic power, Liliana lowered her head to avoid the other party's gaze, and replied cautiously, staring at her boots.

   "Platinum Calendar 1886..."

   "hiss..."

I don't know if it was her own delusion, Liliana seemed to hear the mage take a deep breath. But when she raised her head again, the man still had the same gloomy expression as before.

"Any questions?"

"Let's not talk about this... Do you know where the two demons came from just now?"

   Liliana replied.

"I don't know... They attacked us after my archaeological team entered the ruins, but when they were still in the Mourning Mountains a few days ago, the scouts in the team mentioned that something seemed to be following us, But at the time we thought it was just a beast like a dire wolf..."

said her voice getting smaller and smaller.

And the man who was suspected to be a heretic mage nodded thoughtfully after listening to her description.

"I probably get it. Sorry I need to know, is there anyone else alive on your archaeological team?"

This question made Liliana's heart sink suddenly, and all the memories of the previous attack flooded into her mind.

  …

   "There are voices on it."

   "Where did they come from?"

   "Will, cover lady leave first!"

"The Holy Spirit is above, it was a third-order spell just now!"

"They can see us and light the torches!"

"run!"

   "No, please..."

   "Lily, save me...it's eating me..."

  …

The voices of everyone in the archaeological team seemed to echo in his ears, Liliana bit her lip, and it took a long time to squeeze out two words from the depths of her throat.

"No."

The emotions that had been temporarily suppressed because of fear and shock all exploded at this moment, she covered her face with her hands, and tears kept falling from her fingers.

   "All dead... all eaten..."

After a long time, probably after she had had enough of her emotions, the man put a hand on her shoulder.

"Come on, let's get to the root of this problem first."
