Chapter 7: The Mystery of Sphinx

Standing in the study, Richard saw five or six tall bookshelves side by side next to the wall, each of which was filled with books and scrolls.

narrowed his eyes, Richard walked to the front of one of the bookshelves, stepped on a dedicated wooden ladder, and reached out to touch the top of the bookshelf.

Pushed away a lot of books and scrolls, and Richard felt a cold black iron box placed at the innermost of the bookshelf. The black iron box is more than thirty centimeters long and five to six centimeters thick, with cumbersome lines engraved on the surface, which looks weird and mysterious.

Licha pulled the black iron box out of the bookshelf slightly, walked down the wooden ladder and placed it on the wooden table in the study.

With a click, Richard opened the black iron box to reveal a book inside.

This book is about the size of a black iron box, and the cover on the surface shows a metallic cold color, which looks extremely heavy.

Richard took the book out and felt the touch like ice, his eyes flashed, and his eyes fell on a depression on the cover.

The depression matches the metal pattern on the cover. It looks like a cracked mouth. If you look at it from a special angle, you can still see a small line of uncheckable characters: Let me drink the magic energy, I will Tell you the truth of this world.

Magic book! In other words, this is a wizard book!

This was found by Li Cha in the deepest part of the royal library. Its origins are not even clear to the oldest librarian. I only know that this is a quirky book, full of evil power, with a vicious curse. If you are in constant contact with it, it will be sick at the most, and deadly at the worst.

Richard naturally does not believe in the so-called curses and evil forces. According to Richard, this book contains nothing but a volatile substance that is toxic to the human body. As long as you pay attention to the circulation of air, you can completely avoid chronic poisoning.

But trying to unlock the secrets in the book is not easy.

   Because this book is wordless.

   Yes, no words!

There are no words in the pages. It is excluded that someone deliberately manipulated it. There is only one explanation: Under special conditions, this book can show hidden content. It's like a common trick on modern earth. It uses starch to write on white paper, and it changes color when it touches iodine.

But Richard has done a lot of tests, whether it is pure aqueous solution, iodine, acid or lye, they can't change the pages of the book. Obviously, the paint applied on the pages of the book is a very special kind, only to find the corresponding reactant.

And what is this reactant, the cover already said clearly enough: magic energy.

What is magic energy? Magic substance?

In order to crack the secrets of this wizard book, and to understand the secrets of wizards and spells, Richard has been searching for strange creatures and humans for years, and now...

Richard turned his head slightly and looked at the rose-colored liquid on the side of the table.

"Right or wrong, you should know it right away?" Richard said to himself, next time he picked up the bottle with the rose-colored liquid, opened the stopper, and slowly poured it into the depression on the cover of the book.

Soon, the depression was filled, and a small bubble came up. After a rest for half a day, the crackling broke.

It seems to cause a chain reaction in a moment. The liquid in the depression of the cover seems to boil, and a large number of bubbles pop out and constantly break open.

   "Pap! Pap! Pap!"

Then, it seemed that the restriction was triggered. With a gulp, all the liquid was swallowed by the book in an instant and disappeared completely.

At the next moment, the book began to tremble slightly, as if human beings were shaking, causing the desktop to start shaking.

Licha raised her eyebrows, reached out to hold the shaking wizard book, and then picked up the bottle with the rose-colored liquid and directed it to the depression on the cover to pour it in again.

This time, as the liquid was poured, the sound of drinking water of "Gudong Gudong" continued to sound. Every time the sound rang, the filled liquid would disappear, and a low chant of "more...more..." came out.

Just like that, Richard drunk a large half of the bottle of liquid, and the sound of drinking water finally disappeared, replaced by a full hiccup, "Hip-hiccup -"

The shaking book slowly returned to calm, and Li Cha took a deep breath and opened it.

saw that the first page of the book was originally blank, but now there is a little bit of blood red paint showing up, and finally it is merged into a scary skull.

The flames in the skull's eyes burned like a real flame. I don't know if it was an illusion. Li Cha felt the heat.

This……

At the next moment, something even more shocking happened, the skull in the painting was moving, and the jaws whispered in a cold, one by one: "Who wakes me up? Who is going to peek into Master Monroe's knowledge treasure? Answer Me, otherwise you will be punished the harshest!"

If the rest of the people were scared to death when they saw this, Richard didn't. He looked at the skull on the page with interest and asked, "Who are you?"

"I am a calligrapher created by Master Monroe to protect the safety of this book and screen the qualifications of people who read it."

   "What can you do?"

"I can verify that everyone who reads this book is smart enough. If it is, then he will be qualified to read this book. If not, then he will pay the price for his own recklessness and ignorance."

   "What price?"

"Death!" Shu Ling's voice was very cold.

Richard laughed: "It's a little interesting."

Then Richard asked: "How do you verify that everyone is smart enough?"

"I will exchange a question with everyone. If he can answer my question correctly and make me unable to answer his question, then even if he is smart enough. During the period when I cannot answer his question, he can Read the contents of this book at will without penalty."

"Is this..." Li Cha's eyes flashed, "So what's your problem?"

"People who want to peek into Master Monroe's knowledge, are you sure you want to start a challenge?" Shu Ling's voice became solemn.

"Always try it." Richard said, "Whether it is a success or a failure, I want to study your mechanism of action at UU reading www.uukanshu.com."

"..." Shu Ling was silent for a moment, as if thinking about what Richard said, and finally made a loud noise, "Okay, since you are sure of the challenge, then come to answer this difficult question: there is a strange creature, There are four legs in the morning and two legs at noon..."

Richard was shocked when he heard this. Isn't this the Sphinx mystery in Greek mythology on modern earth? In Greek mythology, the sphinx monster "Sphinx" sits on a cliff near the city of Bibai, stopping passers-by and asking them the same riddle.

Many people couldn't guess the answer, and they were eaten up mercilessly by Sphinx. Later, a person named "Oedipus" guessed the correct answer. "Sphinx" was extremely ashamed. , Jumped off the cliff and died.

The next moment without waiting for Shu Ling to finish talking, Richard couldn't help but interrupt: "Don't tell me, what you want to say next is,'This creature will have three legs at night, when there are the most legs, It is also when he walks the slowest and has the weakest physical strength." Then asked me, "What is this creature?"

Shuling's voice stopped abruptly, falling into silence, falling into a long silence, as if he had encountered this situation for the first time.

Richard spoke again and said to Shu Ling: "Well, if this is really the case, then I can only tell you that the puzzle is'human'. Because people crawled when they were babies (morning) There are four legs, two legs for normal walking in adulthood (noon), and three legs for crutches in old age (at night).

But... the standard for assessing cleverness is just such a puzzle similar to a sharp turn in the brain, is it really rigorous? Or does it mean that what you said is not the same as what I understand? You are biased towards wit, and I am biased towards wisdom...",
