My Animation Era

Chapter 801: New city design (for subscription)

Chapter 801 New City Design (for subscription)

Domestic animation, especially domestic 3D animation, generally has a problem, that is, not paying attention to background textures.

for example.

Assuming a certain animation, the story is a Star Wars that takes place in the galaxy, and the good and the evil are driving space battleships to bombard each other.

  Then here comes the problem!

Since it is a space battleship, can you make it the shape and size that a space battleship should have? Don't give people the illusion of a small fishing boat, OK?

This example may not be intuitive enough, so put it another way, buildings!

In common 3D animations, the shaping of background buildings has always been criticized by the audience.

The protagonist and the others came to a palace, which looked pretty good from a distance, but once the protagonist and others walked into the palace, all the flaws were exposed.

This layout, this floor height, are you sure this is the palace where the XX emperor/king lives, and not some three-bedroom, one-living private house?

   This is an ordinary building.

If the background of the story is expanded and a complete city is derived, then the problem will be even greater, and it will be easier for the audience to play.

Fog grass? This is the city?

A mini city built with "Cities: Skylines" or "Minecraft" is probably much better than this, right?

Several architectural textures are sewn together. It looks like that from a distance, but it is full of flaws when you get closer. The scale and pattern are completely unworthy of the name "XX City".

The same is true for "The Adventures of Lolo". The so-called City of Time, City of Snow, City of Energy, the names are more than one, but the actual texture effect...

   One has to say one!

These three motorcycle cities feel more like a "landmark building" than a city scale.

"Maybe we got it wrong?" Huang Kun asked, "Maybe in the eyes of these robots, the so-called city or city is just such a single building?"

   "What you said makes sense."

Gu Miao nodded first, agreeing to Huang Kun's guess. After all, how could humans understand the aesthetics and ideas of robots?

   "But it's animation!"

"Our animation is not for robots, nor for Human Torch and Vanguard, but for human audiences..."

So, the aesthetics and understanding of robots are not important, what is important is that as a human audience, human visual aesthetics must be given priority.

  Maybe Huang Kun is right.

Perhaps in the world of "King of War", the city of energy, the city of time, and the city of wind and snow look like this, and the robot calls this "landmark building" a city.

But this is a cartoon, a cartoon made for human audiences. It is no problem for them to reshape a city layout based on human aesthetics or cognitive understanding, right?

   "OK! You decide..."

Huang Kun raised his hand in surrender and said, "Then tell me, what should these cities look like?"

"Let's talk about the City of Time first!"

Gu Miao took out a black signature pen, drew on the whiteboard behind her and said, "Easy to attack but difficult to defend, the architectural style is mostly castle-like, made of blue glass, surrounded by towering walls and moats. "

From a distance, the City of Time looks like a blue ocean floating above the earth.

The internal structure is also very simple.

The square main body is divided into four "city areas" by two main streets. From the perspective of looking down, it is similar to a "Tian" character!

The floor area is not bad.

Because the ferocious beasts tried to capture this city time and time again, it has been in turmoil. If there is not enough troops to guard it, how could it be possible to persist for so long?

Sufficient troops mean that the city of time cannot be too small, otherwise there are not many locomotive clansmen inside, and it is difficult to guard the time with the defender of the city, the general of Thunderbolt, and the king of machine fighters, Lolo. City.

   Energy City is different!

As the most important city of the locomotive family, it also has the highest defense. It is guarded by a central missile system, which is easy to defend but difficult to attack.

So Energy City should be positioned as a "military city". There may not be many ordinary residents, but there are more elite fighters.

This is not difficult to understand.

The City of Time is easy to attack and difficult to defend, so a large number of troops need to be dispatched to defend it, while the City of Energy is easy to defend and difficult to attack, and its defense attributes are full, so it does not need so many motorcycle troops.

In the animation of the original "Lolo Adventures of Variety Robots", the design of Energy City is very good, and the tower is also very "sci-fi" and "futuristic".

Gu Miao decided to continue using this design.

However, in order to make Energy City appear larger, more like a city rather than a landmark building, he decided to use the "copy and paste" method!

The so-called copy and paste refers to copying a few of the "circular towers" in the original animation to make them "connected into one piece".

In the new version of Energy City, there are a total of five similar high-tower buildings, one in the center and one in each of the four directions.

The five high towers are connected by circular passages, connected to the missile defense system, and suspended above the hot magma flow.

"interesting!"

Seeing the general "layout" of Energy City drawn by Mr. Gu, Huang Kun's eyes lit up.

The sci-fi feel comes right away.

This is the future city in his mind, and it is also a robot city that meets his expectations!

"What about the Snow Wind City?"

"City of Wind and Snow... Ugh!"

Regarding this city, Gu Miao had a headache, and didn't think about how to design the layout for a while.

Why?

Because the city of wind and snow is very special, the special thing is that this city is not only located in the ice and snow, but also surrounded by cliffs, the environment can be called very harsh.

Under such a harsh environment, the motorcycle fighters in the Snow Wind City can basically transform into "fighters".

to be honest!

The city of wind and snow is more like an airport than a city. Temiao has no room for cars and excavators. When Thunderbolt comes here, it has to be lamented that "travel is difficult".

   More abstractly...

Obviously, almost all the fighters in the Wind and Snow City are fighter jets. As a result, the city is still a "blockhouse" type of building in the original animation.

  Is this reasonable?

Even if it’s a bit crude, if you don’t design any runway, just build some hangars, it’s still justified. But the bunker is full of fighter jets, which is a bit of an insult to IQ.

Regarding the transformation of Snow Wind City, Gu Miao hasn't thought about it yet.

After all, in the harsh natural environment of cliffs + ice and snow, the structure and layout of the city is naturally different from the City of Time and the City of Energy.

As for the Temple of the Moon God and the Paladin Forest?

Well…

Of these two places, one was destroyed by the Tiger King and the other was the forest. The background texture is relatively easy.

After the production of the animation is actually started, the scene that is estimated to be a waste of time is actually not very eye-catching, the Fire Dragon Valley that contains a lot of energy amethysts!
