My Italian

Chapter 58: German-Italian Military Alliance

A new day has begun, but the Italian delegation temporarily living in Charlottenburg Palace did not feel the new beginning.

Yesterday, the meeting chaired by Prime Minister Depretis and the Foreign Secretary was held until late at night, but no result could be reached after a long discussion. I have already thought of all the ways that I can think of, so what else can I think of when we get everyone together now?

But having said that, the leaders asked everyone to do as they were, and no one dared to complain. Everyone is not stupid. Now the Prime Minister and the Foreign Minister are on fire. Anyone who dares to complain will be angered, so they can only accompany the two big men to suffer together.

Fortunately, the last two big men finally lost their temper, so they could go back to the house to rest, otherwise they would have to wear panda eyes today.

So the entourage who followed the two adults today are not very interested. After all, they have been talking for so many days, and they can't see Germany's attitude. But despite this, they still have to hold on to the last effort.

In the second carriage, Foreign Secretary Barcona and Prime Minister DePretis, who was in the same car, complained. "Such negotiations would be very demoralizing, and it seems the Germans are not going to let go."

It seems that His Excellency Bakona has also been affected. Even the man who has worked in the diplomatic service for many years has been affected by pessimism. As the Prime Minister, De Pretis is no exception.

"Work hard, at least we have to do our best."

Well, Depretis' words are not at all like encouraging words, but like seeking relief.

It's just that fate played a big joke on them at this time. The imaginary enemy in St. Petersburg, the French delegation gave them an invisible assist.

"Huh" When the carriage came to the prime minister's office for negotiation, DePretis immediately felt the difference. Also feeling the same way is Bakona, the Foreign Secretary beside him.

"His Excellency the Earl came out to greet us in person, which made us feel very terrified."

In line with the principle of diplomatic reciprocity, Bakona immediately went up to meet him and thanked Weizsäcker, the German Foreign Minister, who greeted his party with a smile on his face.

You must know that this person has never waited for them at the door in the previous negotiation, which made the two feel different.

"Where, as a friend of Germany, my foreign minister should welcome you."

Weizsäcker also smiled and casually characterized Italy as Germany's friend.

The two foreign ministers chatted casually as if they had been friends for many years. After the Italian negotiating delegation got off the bus, they walked to the meeting room of the Prime Minister's Office under the leadership of Count Weizsäcker.

When he came to the conference room, DePretis and Bismarck exchanged a few words and then started the negotiation.

"Everyone, we, Italy, are negotiating with you with sufficient sincerity this time. In order to show our goodwill, let's talk about the conditions first."

Although he felt that Germany's attitude was different, in order to avoid possible misjudgment, De Pretis planned to test Germany's attitude first. So he took the documents he had prepared and began to report the conditions in Italy.

"In order to strengthen the economic exchanges between the two countries, I think the tariffs of the two countries can be appropriately reduced, from the current 25% to 18%, which will help the economic development of our two countries. In addition, we also..."

De Pretis then gave Germany considerable convenience in terms of investment, education, cultural exchanges, tourism and personnel exchanges. It can be said that this is basically the biggest concession that Italy can give. If Germany still does not agree, then the alliance will not end.

So after De Pretis finished speaking, the Italian delegation was waiting for Germany's reply.

"Your Excellency Depretis, we have felt the sincerity of Italy, and our country naturally wants to reach a more comprehensive friendly relationship with your country..."

When Bismarck said this, when the Italian delegation present stunned, a secret message came.

"However, the issue between your country and Austria needs to be resolved. We don't want to see the two allies quarreling because of this, leading to an irreversible situation."

That's right, the German Prime Minister said before that this is the end, which made many people in the Italian delegation feel weak and felt that there was no progress in the negotiations with Germany, but the next words of Prime Minister Bismarck surprised them.

"So I think that the relationship between your country and Austria can be better promoted by mediating the issue between your country and Austria. Therefore, our country intends to act as an intermediary to help your country and Austria reach an acceptable result."

Well, Bismarck's explanation of the previous German behavior shocked many people, but the meaning of his expression made the delegation feel ecstatic. Although they didn't know what happened in the middle, it was at least beneficial to Italy. Even The smiles on Prime Minister De Pretis' face were all more sincere.

"Thank you for your country's willingness to act as an intermediary to mediate the dispute between our country and Austria. This is really very good news."

Facing the gratitude of the Italians, Prime Minister Bismarck did not express much, and went straight to the topic. "Well, let's talk about the cooperation between your two countries first, and then Count Weizsäcker will take you to Vienna to negotiate with Austria."

"No problem, then we'll thank Mr. Earl first."

"It's alright, this is what I should do~www.wuxiamtl.com~ Well, after clearing the Austrian stuck between the two countries, the alliance negotiation between Germany and Italy went very smoothly, one was willing to accept, the other was eager to Find allies, and that's not going to be a hindrance.

So in the next three days, the two countries mainly reached an agreement on military diplomacy, and finally reached a total of eight articles, the main contents are:

①Contracting states undertake to maintain peace and friendship with each other, not to join alliances or agreements against any of them, and to exchange views and support each other on general political and economic issues that may arise.

(2) If Italy is attacked by France, Germany must give aid with all its troops; if Germany is attacked by France, Italy also undertakes the same obligation.

(3) When one or both of the contracting states is attacked and goes to war with two or more great powers that are not signatories of this treaty, all the contracting states shall participate in the war at the same time.

4. When a major power that is not a signatory of this treaty threatens the national security of one of the contracting parties, and the contracting party is forced to go to war with it, the other contracting parties are obliged to remain neutral to their allies and reserve the right to participate in the war at an appropriate time.

(5) If the peace of either of the Contracting States is threatened under the circumstances envisaged in the preceding articles, the Contracting States shall consult on the military measures to be taken with the aim of ultimately cooperating.

6. The contracting states undertake that in the event of joint participation in the war, unless they unanimously agree, they will never conclude an armistice, peace or treaty.

And this newly released treaty was signed by Kaiser Wilhelm I of Germany and Carlo who rushed back in a hurry, and it is in triplicate, with Germany and Italy each keeping one copy. As for the extra portion, it is reserved for the Austrians.

It is believed that under the persuasion of Germany, His Majesty Franz Joseph would make a wise choice to sign a big name.
