Spoiling History: Starting from the Three Kingdoms

Chapter 167 Sun Zhongmou, Son of the Sun

Liu Bei was dragged up by his third brother.

Brother, why do you have to act like a son and a daughter?!

Adou has a weak temperament, so just take him to many battles!

Zhang Fei has always been able to remember things he is interested in:

Didn't Light Screen say that before? The emperor guards the country! I think he is suitable for Adou.

Otherwise, even if he returns to the old capital, wouldn't it be a disaster if Adou becomes like that Yizong of the Tang Dynasty?

Liu Bei recalled that the emperor of the late Tang Dynasty was always wary of the Guiyi Army. Zhang Yichao worked hard to conquer Liangzhou, but failed and was demoted. Hexi experienced losses and gains again.

General Yide is right. Pang Tong also spoke up for Zhang Fei:

We have a long way to go to prosper the Han Dynasty. After taking Hanzhong, we will look north to Yongliang, go west to restore the old lands of the Western Regions, and go east to take back Guanzhong and the Central Plains.'

Jiangdong and Beihu have to be dealt with, and Korea and Japanese slaves have to be looked at, as well as Nanyang body poison and so on...

Zhang Fei's eyes sparkled when he heard this, and he slapped Pang Tong on the shoulder, making him stagger:

The military advisor should remember it clearly! I, Lao Zhang, will be satisfied if I can accomplish just one of these things for my eldest brother!

Pang Tong looked angrily at Zhang Fei's revenge.

Regarding Pang Tong's words, the three people in Yizhou had different reactions:

Zhang Song's expression was enthusiastic, and he only felt that his original vision was indeed right. The lord is a hero, and he who is short in body but not short in ambition can finally show his ambition!

Fa Zheng is more of an admiration, the master’s starting point is lower than mine! But to be able to fight so hard and have the heart to swallow up the world, his law and filial piety should be by his side!

Liu Ba pinched the book in his sleeve and felt that he was running around in vain when he was in Jingzhou. After three years of going around in circles, he returned to the starting point.

Kong Ming, who looked a little ashamed because of the fact that Adou was abandoned, suddenly remembered Emperor Fan.

Should there be some reference value in the guide for the emperor written by the Emperor through the ages?

But...Kong Ming was thinking in his heart, if Sichuan is determined, medicine should be the first to be established.

Leaving aside the idea of diabetes mellitus, which I still don’t quite understand now, Kong Ming’s eyes slid over Fazheng and Liuba in turn.

There are a lot of premature deaths, which is extremely abnormal.

Instead of asking for the unpredictable medicine like that of later generations, Kong Ming felt that medicine should be established even if it was just to prevent premature death!

[However, aristocrats are still far away from us after all. There is a very classic question: If you were a commoner in the Three Kingdoms, which country would be better?

First of all, this question has a clear premise, that is, the Three Kingdoms are still in troubled times.

Yuan opera, which has a similar status to Tang poetry and Song lyrics, has a drama called The Secret of a Boudoir. There is a sentence in it that says very well:

It is better to be a peace dog than a troubled person.

The Three Kingdoms is similar. Essentially, it is a worse situation.

Among them, the life of the people in Jihan was relatively simple. We have already talked about it in detail in Zhuge Liang's chapter on Shu rule. Water conservancy, salt and iron, laws, farming, etc. have basically been sorted out, laying a pretty solid foundation.

When Huan Wen of the Eastern Jin Dynasty was conquering Shu, he met a centenarian man who was a minor official in the era of Wu Hou. Huan Wen was very curious about Wu Hou and asked him how Wu Hou compared with today.

The clerk’s answer was also very concise:

When Duke Ge was here, I didn't notice the difference. Since the Duke passed away, I haven't seen any comparison.

From this, we can see that the living standards of the people in Shu were on a decline after the death of Wuhou. Later, Jiang Wan and Fei Yi belonged to Xiao Gui and Cao Sui. Adou, a fat man, fought with the eunuchs to fight crickets, and the harm to the people's livelihood was relatively limited.

On the eve of the final fall of the country, Xue Jue of Soochow went to Ji Han as an envoy, and the report he came back was that all the people have food for food, food rather than hunger, which probably means that the food is not very good.

Since Xue Jue of Soochow commented like this, is Soochow living a good life?

But in fact, no matter how you calculate it, people's livelihood in Soochow should be relatively at the bottom, more like India.

One of the sources is Luo Tong's memorial before the Battle of Yiling.

Luo Tong was one of the few officials in Jiangdong who cared about the people. In his memorial, he described the life at the bottom he saw with his own eyes:

Because of wars and epidemics, counties and counties were left with depleted fields and barren crops. Farmers in the countryside were basically widowers, widowers, old and disabled, with few able-bodied men.

Poor people and soldiers stationed in the fields would even drown their children themselves because they were unable to raise them.

Labor conscription was frequent, and poor people were used arbitrarily, and people with a little wealth were willing to spend their wealth and bribes to avoid being conscripted.

The second source of information is the Wu bamboo slips unearthed in Zuomalou.

Jiangdong has a clear hierarchy. In addition to the Sun family and the four major surnames, the people are divided into four levels: upper class, middle class, lower class, and lower class.

The lower-class households and lower-class people were basically in abject poverty. Faced with this group that could not afford to pay taxes, the Jiangdong government said that this was easy, so they could become slaves.

Wu bamboo slips record this type of special corvee: to state officials, to county officials, to county pawns, to county officials, to Duo Zuo, to Sanzhou Cangfu, to Du pawns, etc.

Once the government arranges this kind of corvee service, it needs to be entered into the household registration and followed for life. It cannot refuse, and it can be obeyed at any time, and there is no end time.

From our modern perspective, this caste system is somewhat similar to that of India next door. When we established the Zhou Dynasty, ancient India invented the four-varna system, which is also commonly known as the caste system.

The four classes of Brahmins, Kshatriyas, Vaisyas, and Sudras are engaged in sacrifices, warriors, farmers, merchants, and lowly industries respectively. Below them are Dalits, who are called untouchables.

It is also because of this system in India that the conquerors came and went from the Khyber Pass and the caste system still stands today.

It is reasonable to speculate that Sun Quan was put into the Ganges River by Mother India, crossed the ocean along the coast and entered the Yangtze River, and became the chosen son of Jiangdong.

His blue eyes and purple beard are proof that he is the son of the Hindu sun!

Of course, the above is just a joke. Brother Zhongmou, who is under the Nine Springs, must not take it seriously.

Therefore, if a commoner in Jiangdong is unfortunate enough to become the lower two of the four ranks, his life will undoubtedly be at the bottom of the Three Kingdoms.

In addition, don’t think that there are very few lower-ranking people in Jiangdong. Judging from the transfer records unearthed at Zoumalou:

The top grade has never appeared, the middle grade has only appeared once, and the rest of the service records are for the low grade and below. 】

The monarchs and ministers of the Tang Dynasty only felt that they had really learned a lot.

Completely different land, even more different system.

This Varna in India... no, caste system, what is it?

Li Shimin felt that the word was really hard to pronounce, so he also used the term caste.

Du Ruhui's expression was full of inquiry. He took another piece of paper and wrote the four levels of India plus one untouchable on a separate piece of paper, passed it to the ministers for circulation, and said:

This Varna should be the sound of the language, and the word caste should be named after the general meaning of it in later generations.

The system of this country is quite barbaric. No wonder Guangmu said before that this place has survived the war and this system can last for thousands of years.

Fang Xuanling looked at the joke behind and guessed:

This Hindu religion takes the country as its name. Could it be that there is no king in India and the country is governed by religion?

It's just...what about Buddhism?

Changsun Wuji said:

We know very little, so we might as well make a guess based on this.

Sacrifices are made to the gods, so this Brahmin is like Your Majesty, who speaks the constitution of heaven.

The rest of the ranks can be understood by analogy. Kshatriyas are like civil servants and generals, and the lower two ranks are like common people.

As for the untouchables, it's even less unusual. They are roughly similar to a domestic slave that anyone can control?

Li Shimin also understood. First of all, he stared at the name of Khyber Pass thoughtfully:

It's a mouthful to say. Sooner or later I'll change your name!

Then he said: Such a system, regardless of knowledge and ability, only looking at his origin, is completely different from our Tang Dynasty.

No wonder India is being conquered by foreign races in turn. The people have no desire to fight to the death, and the soldiers have no ambition to protect the country. How can we fight?

No... Li Shimin shook his head in his heart again. It's really hard to tell which surname belongs to the common people in this caste system.

But the benefits are also visible, that is, the cost of conquest is greatly reduced. What a soft persimmon.

Didn’t you see that the eyes of Changhou Junji and Yuchi Jingde were shining brightly? Even Changsun Wuji was ready to make a move.

I just wonder why this foreign country that has been conquering India in turns doesn’t build fortifications at the Khyber Pass?

Li Shimin felt quite strange in his heart: As long as it is blocked, wouldn't it be possible to have peace of mind in India?

Du Ruhui put forward another perspective:

Looking at the battles with India in later generations and looking at their military routes, could it be that this natural chasm known as the Himalayan Mountains also has mountain passes in it?

Changsun Wuji thought for a while and shook his head:

What extraordinary means will come in future generations...

Li Shimin was quite tempted: Choose a smart person, send strong soldiers to protect him, bring cane sugar to pretend to be a merchant, and go into Tubo to inquire about the situation.

Since Tubo grew up here, if there is a shortcut to India, they must know it.

So the matter was suppressed for the time being.

Only then did Li Shimin have time to stare at the words of later generations teasing Sun Quan and laugh out loud.

In comparison, it seems that he is quite popular with future generations, at least without such joking remarks.

Even Li Shimin had to thank Sun Zhongmou. If he hadn't forced the people like this, how could he have heard of this Indian system?

The three people in Yizhou were a little surprised when they stared at the centenary old official's comment about Wuhou:

Such a posthumous name?

Zhang Fei was complacent: What does this mean? The people of Sichuan even built the Wuhou Temple for the military advisor, which has been passed down for thousands of years and has been inexhaustible for thousands of years!

Liu Bei, Pang Tong, Zhao Yun and Mi Zhu nodded fiercely together, feeling extremely honored.

Then Zhang Fei said happily:

The military advisor and my brother jointly established a temple to worship him. Although the temple plaque says Zhaolie Temple, the people only call it Wuhou Temple. This shows that the military advisor has won the hearts of the people in Sichuan.

Liu Bei's eyes became subtle, he glanced at his third brother and said:

Baishui Pass is guarded by Zhongmiao, so Yide might as well stay in Chengdu for half a month.

It won't be too late to return to Baishuiguan to guard after the dredging of the Chengdu river is completed.

Zhang Fei touched his head and felt that his elder brother had become moody, so he could only respond aggrievedly.

In order to ease the embarrassment, Zhang Song took the initiative to liven up the atmosphere and said:

Since Wolong has the posthumous title of Zhongwu, Fengxiao, who wants to be as famous as him, will also leave his name in history.

Pang Tong opened his mouth to meet Zhang Song's attentive gaze, but he couldn't say a word, just like a fish that had landed on the beach.

Next update will be around nine o'clock, thanks miao
