The days of hanging out at Hogwarts

Chapter 31 Nico’s Book of Fantasy

There were not many people in the Gryffindor lounge. Loren said hello to the people he knew, then returned to the dormitory and took out the black suitcase from under the bed.

The elves clean it every day, and there is no dust on the box.

Pulling out the two books at the bottom of the box, Loren sat cross-legged on the carpet in front of the window and looked at them carefully in the sunlight.

The cover page of "An Introduction to Hieroglyphic Symbols" is dark as a whole, with only a simple layout of the title of the book and Nico's signature in the lower right corner, without any grooves or anything like that.

He took out the small picture card that Nico gave him. The paper was thicker than ordinary parchment paper and had a frosted texture. It was close to the business cards printed in the Muggle world. The background color was pure black.

In the picture, the young Nico Flamel squinted his eyes, as if he was resting his mind.

Loren placed the picture right in the center of the cover of "An Introduction to Pictograms."

Red, blue, green and yellow light paths flow out from the edges of the picture. The flowing light rays start from the four sides of the picture, extend out, and mix with each other, but the light paths do not intersect. It looks a bit sci-fi.

When the light path spread to the entire book, Nico Flamel on the picture opened his eyes, a pair of silver eyes shining with magic symbols.

Not sure if it was due to the change in lighting, Loren felt that Nico's hair in the portrait had also turned a bit whiter.

There are many magical portraits in Hogwarts. They can move freely among the portraits and communicate with others. The person Loren came into contact with the most was the fat lady at the door of the lounge.

He tried to communicate with Nico in the portrait: "Hello? Can we chat?"

The eyes of the person in the portrait followed Loren's mouth movements, but he did not speak.

When he didn't get a reply, Loren tried to open the book, but the whole book was like a whole and could no longer be opened.

Loren thought about Tom's notebook Horcrux, which seemed to hold conversations through writing. Loren took a quill, dipped it in ink, and wrote "Hello?" under the picture.

The ink stains disappeared instantly, as if the book had absorbed the ink. Nico in the portrait spread his hands as if to show something, and then, four ring-shaped imprints appeared under the portrait.

The rings are about the same size as a copper knut, arranged in a row. In the first ring is an open book, in the second ring are two crossed wands, and in the third is a boiling pot. Crucible, the fourth is a scale for weighing.

Loren guessed that the book may represent theoretical knowledge, the crossed wands may represent knowledge about magic spells, the boiling crucible represents potions, and the last scale represents alchemy, alluding to the principle of equivalent exchange in alchemy.

This strong sense of déjà vu is like the mobile app in the previous life. It won't be touch-sensitive, right?

Loren thought so and did so. He pointed his finger at the first icon, the open book.

Nico's silver eyes shone brightly in the portrait, and Loren's gaze was drawn towards it. When their eyes met, Loren felt dizzy. Then Loren felt a pulling force on his nose, as if someone was inserting fingers into his nasal cavity and dragging him forward.

When Loren reacted, he came to a library. There were bookshelves everywhere, and the bookshelves were filled with books. They were wide, brightly lit, and had white marble under their feet.

"Welcome to the world of Nico Flamel's Book of Fantasy!" a voice came from behind Loren.

Loren turned around and saw a ghost that looked exactly like Nico in the picture floating in the air. The lower body gradually blurred, and by the time it reached the feet it was no longer visible, like a holographic projection of the previous life. The avatar's voice is a bit shrill and sounds distorted.

"Did magic put the library into this book?" Loren's eyes sparkled with surprise.

"Of course not. This contains all the books that Nico has read over the past few hundred years. In reality, many of the books can no longer be found."

"Memory magic has shaped this library, which is somewhat similar to a pensieve, but more physical and can be browsed at will."

"The book also has an alchemy laboratory, a potion house, and a duel room. They are all virtual spaces created by memory magic combined with alchemy."

"You are just a conscious body now. When you enter the world of the book, your real body will fall asleep. When you wake up, everything that happened here will become a wisp of memory and return to your mind."

Virtual Nico briefly introduced this fantasy book.

Loren was dumbfounded when he heard this. What kind of super-era thinking, virtual space, real simulation, if there was another networking function, Nico would really create a metaverse.

Loren then asked the question he was concerned about: "What about the speed of time? Is the time here consistent with the real time?"

Virtual Nico smiled: "You have a keen mind, but everything here is just your imagination, or this is your dream."

"Time and space do not exist here. After reading a book and waking up, a second may have passed in reality, or a whole night may have passed, depending on your state."

"Then can I bring others in?" Loren thought this question was also critical.

"Loren, this is your dream. Nico just put things in and didn't make rules. Everything depends on you." Virtual Nico's voice became dazed, and he did not deny the possibility, "It's just that I I’m only responsible for teaching, I can’t tell you what to do.”

Loren hated things without instructions, so he started wandering around the library.

There should be fewer books here than in the school library, but there are many books that are not in the Hogwarts library. The key is that some books in the restricted book area can be browsed here at will.

"I really don't lack books!"

The books in the school library were enough to study for a long time, and the various manuscripts in the Room of Requirement, plus here, Loren felt a deep despair.

After wandering around for a while, he didn't plan to stay any longer: "I want to see other rooms."

"Of course!" Virtual Nico spread his hands.

Loren heard the sound of gears turning, and then the whole world switched like a slide, and the bright library turned into a classroom.

Like ordinary classrooms at Hogwarts, it has a high ceiling and gray stone walls, but the classroom is empty without any tables, chairs or benches.

Virtual Nico floated in mid-air and introduced to Loren: "This is the duel room, a place to improve your actual combat ability. Nico feels that combat is a crucial ability for an alchemist."

"How to practice? Will you be able to spawn monsters for me?" Loren looked around. This was a closed space, and he could see all the way at a glance.

The virtual Nico floating in the air became more blurry, with red, yellow, blue and green lights flowing on him, and then turned into people familiar to Loren, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape...

"Based on your impression and Nico's information, I can transform into anyone to duel with you, and I can also..."

At this point, Professor McGonagall, Professor Quirrell, and Professor Snape stepped out of the halo one after another, floating around Loren with expressionless faces.

To be honest, having four professors floating around you with expressionless faces was very stressful, and Loren felt a little awkward.

"It can also simulate a multiplayer battlefield." Virtual Nico seemed very proud.

"A group fight, right?" Loren exposed it immediately.

Afterwards, virtual Nico took Loren to visit the potion room and alchemy laboratory. These two places can simulate the preparation of potions and conduct alchemy experiments. The experimental materials are all simulated based on Nico's memory and have corresponding Nature and function.

But the things Loren refined were only in his memory and did not really exist.

"Then, what should I call you?" Loren finished exploring and was about to exit the fantasy book, then turned to look at the figure floating in the air.

The avatar smiles:

"Call me Flamel."
