Who Made Me a Princess

Chapter 128: He's Not a Kid

“What, playing house?”

“Yes, playing house.”

I only blinked my eyes for a second when the voice that replied to me became lower and thicker, and the boy that was in front of me became an adult. I could see his dim, red eyes silently staring at me.

I took a deep breath at that moment.

Argh.

As soon as I lost my composure, the mana scattered and the light shining from the ceiling quickly faded. I was startled and reflexively sat up.

“You! I told you not to do things like this before…right?”

TL/n: I guess she is saying this line with a respectful tone.

Oh my god! Why was I being so formal? Why couldn’t I be comfortable when I saw Lucas as an adult? Fortunately, the room darkened and I couldn’t see anything. That also meant Lucas wouldn’t be able to see my bewildered expression.

A languid voice echoed in the darkness.

“You’re being too defenseless.”

I was startled when a warm hand brushed my wrist and I felt a strange pressure on my shoulder.

“Something about it makes me want to reach out and touch you.”

TL/n: Kyaaaa. .///.

The pressure wasn’t unbearable but it wasn’t light enough for me to shake off right away, so I had no choice but to lie back down on the bed.

Although it was dark and I couldn’t see, I could tell that Lucas was nearby. Ahh, let’s take a deep breath. We’re talking about Lucas here. Yes, he appears to be a little older but he’s still Lucas! I tried to calm down and opened my mouth.

“Is that something that should be said by someone who comes in and out of my room every day and night?”

“You only notice me when I look like this.”

A low laugh rang in my ears. But, wait, that’s odd. Why am I so nervous? Because of the sweet voice tickling my ears, I feel as if I’m about to go crazy.

“By now, you should know I’m not a kid.”

I was startled when a warmth pressed against my skin all of a sudden. Wa-wait a minute, what’s going on here? Why are you caressing my wrist in a weird way?

Lucas still had my wrist in his grip. The ticklish feeling caused me to unconsciously squirm as his fingertips grazed my skin.

“Or is our princess not very good at remembering things?”

Are you really Lu-Lucas? Don’t you think we’re getting too close right now? Why don’t you act like you always do? Why is your voice so sweet right now? The voice whispering in my ear is so, so…

“Should I remind you every day?”

“…”

“Would you like that?”

The intimate voice that assaulted my eardrums, curled my toes. A familiar, yet peculiar, figure reflected in my eyes as they adjusted to the darkness. As I stared at Lucas, I couldn’t even breathe as he looked down at me from above. The tense atmosphere, however, was broken the next second.

“It’s time to breathe.”

“Oh, uh me?”

Oh, let go of my nose right now! I struggled against Lucas, who had playfully pinched my nose with his hand. The next moment, everything was bright.

Ack, my eyes! I instinctively raised my hand to shield my eyes. Please let me know before turning on the lights; I requested this some time ago. Sob, sob.

“Be careful next time.”

Lucas was about to get up from the bed when he looked up and rubbed his eyes, which had been blinded by the bright light.

I was a bit relieved to see that he had returned to his boyish appearance. Lucas hadn’t changed his appearance since last year, so he didn’t appear to have changed much in the last two years.

The problem was that Lucas would occasionally turn into an adult, and I was startled at how much I liked that.

“Don’t let any man lay you on the bed like that.”

“Are you any man?”

Does he always say amusing things? Since when did we become this close?

“Of course, I’m not any man.”

Lucas hesitated for a moment at my words before continuing in a subtle tone.

It was an ambiguous voice that sounded satisfied or unsatisfied depending on your perspective.

“But it’s true that you aren’t cautious enough.”

Lucas approached me, despite having expressed his desire to stay away earlier. I rubbed my stinging eyes and glanced at him with dissatisfaction from the oddity of the day.

Yes? Is there anything else you want to discuss? Why are you approaching me so closely? As he sat down on the bed and bent his upper body toward me, I gave him a skeptical look. My shoulders trembled as I was surprised by Lucas’ voice in my ear.

“Don’t let your guard down too much, all right?”

“…!”

“It makes me want to tease you when you look at me with those eyes.”

The low voice of a mature man pierced right through my ears. I leaned back as a reflex, but all I saw was Lucas as a young boy, as if I didn’t hear a deep sound.

“Are you kidding me?”

After bursting in anger, I felt my heart ache and I grasped my ears. Lucas grinned at me and disappeared from my sight as silently as when he had first entered the room.

So I was left alone to wheeze while staring at Lucas’s empty seat.

“Another present has arrived for the Princess. I will move it to the room where I always keep them.”

After having a wonderful walk with Daddy, I returned to the Emerald Palace today. Whoops, Daddy was looking at my roses with a dangerous gaze again!

I’m confident that the idea of the tropical arboretum is over since we had such a lengthy discussion about it last time.

“Princess, the number of invitations has increased. There are so many letters from the young people of society!”

I’m guessing Hannah, and not Ces, was in charge of today’s invitations. But it seems that there are more than usual?

“Every time I see the Princess, she grows more beautiful by the day. You wouldn’t believe how grateful I am. I’m sure His Majesty shares my sentiments.”

Felix cast a sidelong glance at me, the same expression as the one Lilian would sometimes give me. When they looked like this, I always knew who they were thinking of. I’ve sometimes heard them say that the older I get, the more I look like Mom.

“Since the Princess started going out, she has attracted more spirits. Lord Zavier and the Duke, who have been rumored for being cool, are also writing daily association letters to the Princess.”

“Hannah, these aren’t association letters.”

“Oh my, our Princess is naive. Men don’t write letters every day with an ulterior motive, right? Though I support Lord Alpheus more than the other Houses…”

So, you were a member of the Ijekiel club, Hannah… Well, after I received Ijekiel’s present, there would be a commotion whenever we discussed him in particular.

It made me think of Ijekiel, who has been visiting here more frequently lately.

“His Majesty is displeased with the Princess’ trip tomorrow. However, such days are not meant to last. How lonely will His Majesty be if the Princess marries…?”

Felix, who stood next to me, said in a lonely voice.

Oh, but it’s far too early to worry about that.

“It’s fine because I’ll remain single.”

“Yes?”

“Yes?!”

For some reason, everyone was taken aback by my words. Uh, is it really that shocking to learn of princesses who refuse to marry? Their complaints, though, subsided quickly.

Perhaps everyone assumed it was the standard ‘I’m not getting married because I want to live with everyone!’ but it didn’t sound the same to me. Felix soon nodded his head and spoke.

“His Majesty will be delighted to hear that.”

“It would be wonderful if the Princess could stay in the Emerald Palace for a long time.”

“Ah, I was hoping to continue serving the Princess once she married!”

“Hannah, don’t speak in such a disrespectful way.”

Ugh, as expected, the members of the Emerald Palace are harmonious today too…

As I was immersed in the relaxing ambiance, Ces turned from her argument with Hannah and cautioned.

“Princess, please let me know if someone strange comes near you. I’ll quietly…”

Whoosh.

TL/n: 스윽 is a mimetic word, like a sound effect. So here, we used whoosh.

Ces’s sharp heels flashed! They emitted an eerie light. She was an expert on bug repellant! Her nickname was Cockroach Hunter Ces! Through years of experience, she held a silently powerful killing power!

“Sir Robane, the Princess will be in your care tomorrow so I trust that you will keep her safe from any dangerous people while she is out on her trip tomorrow.”

“That’s right, Sir Robane is the only one I trust!”

“Yes, I will take extra precautions tomorrow.”

Pfft, Felix, what have you been responding to with such zeal? In any case, tomorrow’s tea party is solely for young girls anyway. As if she had no choice but to pacify the maids, Lilian sighed and shook her head.

“Princess, the silk gloves you tried on the other day are done. Would you like to take a look at the embroidery now?”

“Okay. Let’s go together, Lillian.”

Before I shook my head with Lillian and left the room, I returned my gaze to Felix, who was reinforcing his resolve, and to Ces and Hannah, who were encouraging him.

“A tea party? Are those really all that fun?”

Today, Lucas walked into my room and snorted at the idea. I gave Lucas a sidelong glance, remembering what had happened the last time, but he didn’t even blink, as if nothing had happened.

Dang it. Quit, quit. It would be my loss if I had to fight him for so long. I lifted my teacup as I responded sarcastically.

“Fun or not, I’m going because it’s hosted by the House of Alpheus.”

“Is that white-haired guy hosting it?”

Lucas frowned at my words. By looking at his face, you could tell who he was thinking of. Lucas hasn’t changed all that much, has he?

“Well, Jennette sent the invitation.”

“Ah, that chimera.”

“She’s not a chimera.”

I frowned at Lucas’s insensitive remarks. He keeps calling Jennette a chimera. Although it’s true she wasn’t born normally.

But isn’t Jennette far too sweet and lovely to be described this way?
