Versatile: Alternate World

14 The Elite Pure White Wolf

I have faced countless Elite Monsters before and this should be the first time I would be facing one since I returned to the past. Elite Monsters are highly sought to be killed by players but in the current state, no one has yet been lucky to find one or even beat one. Not only due to their rare drops, gold drop, and Exp gain, but due to their high value in some quests.

For example, since Lily has given me a quest that involves Gray Wolves, I should be handling Gray Wolves. However, since the Pure White Wolf is a hybrid version of Gray Wolf, it can be counted as a Gray Wolf if brought. Not only that but it will also increase the reward you receive in the quest.

I killed 7 Gray Wolves already and only needed 3 of them. There are four Gray Wolves in them with the Pure White Wolf as the pack leader. Killing the pack leader will cause the remaining wolves to flee. I can't afford to let them flee though as they are walking EXP bags to me and I needed all the EXP I can get.

I changed my weapon into a magic sword. The style of the magic sword is just different from a normal sword but it's a sword that I have familiarized myself with for many years. Using it as my main would make sense but I should at least choose other weapons to increase my comprehension of how to properly use them on their own. But since I am fighting a very strong enemy, then it also makes sense I have to use my very best to fight against the enemy.

The Pure White Wolf is more cautious and commanded the other Gray Wolves to attack. I did not mind them attacking me. In fact, I want them to attack first as that would allow me to counterattack in a good and favorable position where I won't be cornered by enemies.

The Gray Wolves started to pounce me simultaneously. Truthfully, I don't have any experience fighting against the Pure White Wolf due to how it was hunted very fast by many players. As long as it is an Elite Monster, the moment it spawns, it will be immediately killed. I was late on the party on getting the chance to fight it and even if I managed to get a fight against it, it will be immediately killed due to how some high leveled players will hunt this monster, killing it immediately due to the difference of the levels.

First, I dodge the attack and observe their attack pattern and see if it changes due to the influence of the Pure White Wolf. I can't just go and charge ahead just like usual as it may prove fatal if I made the wrong move. Thankfully, they didn't change any kind of unique attack patterns. It's just that they are more organized now. But that doesn't mean they are already undefeatable with being organized.

Readying the Versatile Weapon in its Magic Sword form, I waited for their next organized attack. One of the wolves leaps forward with its fangs bared on to me.

"Gotcha!"

One swipe and I lopped off the head of the Gray Wolf, killing it instantly. It was a counterattack allowing me to kill it immediately. The other Gray Wolves also proceed to attack but I just repeated the process, disposing of them all without much trouble and getting damaged.

The Pure White Wolf's eyes glow red. After its lackeys died, it enters into its Berserk Mode. This trait is sometimes present in some Elite Monsters. They don't need to have low levels just to activate Berserk Mode. Sometimes, just killing the smaller mobs can trigger its Berserk Mode, causing some of the strategies made to be useless due to the sudden increase in danger with the enemy. This time, unlike Gray Wolves in which I can easily counter and kill, the Pure White Wolf is not something I can just kill in one attack.

If I want to survive, I have to observe its attack patterns and inflict damage and accumulate it until it succumbs to its wounds. The Pure White Wolf howled before charging straight towards me. I quickly changed the Versatile Weapon into a Shield and Spear form and deployed the shield to go and block.

DANG!

-120

I was pushed back a bit and my left hand that is holding and supporting the shield felt a bit numb. And ouch, that was one painful crap. Even though I guarded, damage still managed to penetrate my defense. Not only that, with the level difference between us, the Pure White Wolf can easily kill me if I did a small mishap.

With the cover of the shield, I aimed my palm and conjure a spell in my mind. With its berserk state, I can't just recklessly approach it without precautions.

"[Basic Fireball]!"

BOOM!

-94

The damage is pitiful despite the berserk state of the monster where they increase their attack but their defense plummet. If this wolf did not even go berserk, perhaps my damage would count around 40-50. However, the damage is STILL damage. No point complaining about it. But if I keep on damaging the Elite Enemy like this, it will eventually succumb to its wounds and die. I just needed to hold out and wait for the absolute kill.

The Pure White Wolf just brushed off the fire on its fur and once again charged towards me while brandishing its sharp fangs. It might have damaged the boss but that barely scratched its thick health bar.

The boss attacks and slams down its sharp claws and hard paws down to me while I immediately block the incoming attack by using the shield.

"Just go ahead and die, will you!?" I stab my spear on its neck that is open for an attack.

STAB!

-231! Critical!

The Pure White Wolf howled in pain. I managed to pierce it a bit deeper, but not fatal enough. It's just going to keep the Pure White Wolf angrier than before. I needed quick damage for a bit for it to relent and keep its distance away.

"[Shocking Lightning]!" An arc of electricity shot out of my hands and hits the Pure White Wolf. However, it was clear that the damage is pretty minimal and it just brushed off the attack.

However, that small shock is enough for the Pure White Wolf to stop the attacks and relent for a bit by keeping its distance from me. With its strong legs, it can return to me in a few seconds so it is pretty much a tactic of the wolf to minimize the damage it takes against me. This time, the Pure White Wolf is now cautious against me and circles around, trying to get the perfect blind spot available. When it must have found one, it immediately pounces and closed the distance between us.

I quickly changed my weapon back to the Magic Sword and swing the sword with brute force. The Pure White Wolf is fast and I didn't know which part I managed to inflict a slash with. All I know I managed to slice its flesh as blood spurt out from the wound of the wolf and it howled in pain as it landed behind me.

-Inflicted with Bleeding(Minor). Target will lose 20 HP per second for 3 minutes.

I successfully inflicted the wolf with Bleeding. It must have been a very deep slash as it managed to inflict Bleeding(Minor) in just a small slash like that. That would help me chip off the HP of the wolf for a while and since it doesn't have any healing abilities, the Pure White Wolf is stuck with the bleeding. I glance at the cooldown of the [Basic Fireball] and [Shocking Lightning]. Now that they are now ready to use it again after using it earlier, it's time to make finish this.

"[Basic Fireball]!"

This time, I shot it to its face and before the Pure White Wolf can dodge, it hit squarely on its face. Now I managed to see where I inflicted the slash earlier, it was on its right leg, and judging from the bleeding, it was deep enough that a Bleeding debuff will indeed manifest. Considering that this game also handles injuries realistically, that means it can't walk or run properly. Perfect opportunity to launch multiple lethal strikes!

I closed the gap between us and changed my weapon into a normal sword before unleashing one skill.

"[Triple Slash!]"

After the [Triple Slash], I followed it up with a rapid flurry of slices to the Pure White Wolf, causing it to howl in pain. After a few of our exchanges, I can now understand and read whatever moves the Pure White Wolf is going to do to me. Then time to defeat it! With the flurry of strikes, in the middle of the combo, I changed the weapon into a hammer and used it as a finisher.

BANG!

"GRAWR!"

The wolf roared out in pain and fell into the ground due to the impact the hammer caused. However, I have no time to give sympathy to it. Before the wolf can escape from my grasp, I changed my weapon into an ax and used all my strength to give it to the swing. Its HP is also getting low anyways, so a finisher will do the final trick.

"Die for me!" I swung the ax down to it's neck like an executioner giving a death sentence to the target.

Chop!

Looks like the strike I did is something I added too much strength with as the head of the Pure White a wolf toppled down in the distance. after chopping the head/

A series of notifications appeared before me. And to think I would level up twice was also quite a bonus for me. However, I am not surprised. With the help of the [Memento Mori] title, it allowed me to gain bigger exp gained and since it was an elite and a higher leveled monster than me as a plus, it's only natural.

A notification appeared in my view after all those logs appeared.

[You are the first player to kill an Elite Monster in the whole world! This will be recorded in Hall Of Fame. Do you want to announce to the whole world your name? The whole world will know your name and NPCs will think a bit highly of you. You can remain anonymous but the announcement will still rang out.]

Announce/Do not Announce

Ah, its a worldwide announcement. This thing is famous for death-seeking players. Those who dares to announce themselves are always targeted by other players unless you are a strong player. Of course, I have no intention showing my name in public even in-game. I don't want to be famous for these announcements and I think, it is also not the right time to introduce myself to the community. I needed to get stronger before I should show off something.

I selected the "Do not Announce" option. I plan to stick in the shadows and not attract others' attention for now. Although this announcement will be attracting many factions of players, it would take a while for players to find out who it was and if I am just very good at it, no one would know.

[Worldwide Announcement: Congratulations to Unknown Player for being the first player to kill an Elite Monster in the Whole World! Awarding 100 Fame Points]

Well, that went quite well. I also got 100 Fame Points easily. If I raise my Fame, it would help me a lot befriending NPCs easily. I opened my Inventory and activated its Spatial Skill. For me to bring these bodies of Gray Wolves whole, I had to use this ability of my inventory. I swiftly gathered them all without leaving a single piece behind. Even the decapitated heads are not spared as they can be counted if their bodies are missing and they fetch quite a good price sometimes.

Another panel appeared in front of me.

[Pure White Wolf will respawn in a 1-week duration. Please wait for this duration before facing it again.]

I nodded, every Elite Monsters needs a long time before they respawn. Its not my problem now though, and I won't be challenging this monster again. I will be giving it to other people next week. I swiped the panel away from my face and resumed checking the drops. Most of them are just materials while the rest are a whole lot of junk I don't need. However, there is one thing that caught my eyes.

[White Fur Wolf Mask]

Tier: Very Rare Tier

Type: Mask Equipment

AGI: 10

DEX: 10

INT: 10

Info: A mask that covers the whole face with a wolf with white fur. If you wear this, your appearance will be hidden and your hair will turn to white as long as this item is equipped. This mask can also hides your scent to any kind of wolves and won't attack on sight. Not only that, the snout of the mask will act like your mouth allowing you to easily disguise your face away. It was like you are indeed a real wolf you know.

Note: This mask makes you look awesome and at the same time makes you look like a werewolf too.

Oh! I saw this in the past timeline. From what I can remember, it was sold in an auction as a mask type equipment. Many thought it was useless but this would be useful entering the hostile territory of Werewolves and befriending them instead. I managed to get to know its power when someone I know managed to own it. Although its stats are a bit low, its effect to mask your scent from wolves can be considered as a good effect already.

Although there is no Mask Equipment slot available in your avatar panel, it would appear once you equip a piece of mask-type equipment. I really need one right now though since I didn't use the slight alteration option when creating my avatar. At least I can hide my real identity in real life. With me still very weak, hiding this face will also allow me to prevent my face from being shown. I equip it and felt my face appear rather comfortable and nice to wear. Its like your face is covered with soft fur.

Alright, this would be the face of Bladeheart right now. No one can stop me and use it now!

Then, I realized it was almost time for the quests. I didn't have time to check with my stat panel this time because the time is running out from the hidden quest. If I keep on dillydallying here, I would really fail the quest. I quickly returned, sprinting away from the forest.

...

The whole gaming community of Alternate World was shaken by the sudden announcement just earlier.  Someone managed to find and kill the First Elite Monster that some players did not manage to find.

"F*ck! Did someone already manage to meet and kill an Elite?! I can't believe it! It's just the first day!"

"It's not a bug in the announcements, right? Somebody really did managed to kill an Elite? Did one of the experts on online games manage to claim this achievement?"

"No. Even if they did, they still need to prove that they really killed the Elite. It would be a total embarrassment if they failed to do it!"

Many discussions erupted as players tried to guess whoever managed to kill the elite, however, most of their guesses are off as the real person who managed to get the reward is already running in haste to reach the tavern immediately before his quest time limit runs out. Of course, they don't need to know.
